OUR WORK

We’re here to inspire, encourage and empower people to recycle their empty drink cans.

We partner with people and organisations to communicate the benefits of recycling drink cans and improve out-of-home can recycling facilities.

From restaurants to festivals, universities to shopping centres, offices to parks – we’re doing what we can to help people recycle their drink cans wherever they are.

Green Can Awards

The Green Can Awards recognise the businesses, organisations and people that are going above and beyond when it comes to drink can recycling. We want to put a spotlight on those who are going the extra mile to make their cans count, and inspire others to follow in their footsteps!

  • Any business, organisation or individual whose activities have promoted can recycling and/or demonstrably increased recycling rates can apply. Whether it’s setting up new recycling points, running workplace awareness events, recruiting a recycling champion or collecting cans for a charitable cause –  however you’ve made your cans count, we want to hear about it!

  • Fill out our online questionnaire below and then send along with supporting materials including photos and video.  Entries can be submitted at any time.

FAQS

Over 90% of drink cans collected in the UK are recycled within Europe. The majority of cans recycled in the UK are melted down at a large plant in Warrington, Cheshire. There are over 220 aluminium recycling plants spread across Europe!

You’ve heard us say drink cans are endlessly recyclable… But how does the recycling process actually work? We’re glad you asked! We’ve dedicated a whole section of this website to answering that very question: Click here to learn about the Life Cycle of a Can.

If you have the space to store or bale your cans you can collect them in bulk and sell them to a scrap metal merchant.

You can find your nearest metal merchant by carrying out a search online, or alternatively you can contact our team and we’ll be happy to advise.

It is best to contact the metal merchant first before visiting their premises in order to find out their current price per kilogram for cans (1 kilo of cans is approximately 65 individual cans) and if they have a minimum delivery quantity – e.g some may require 5kg or more before they will accept delivery.

Due to a change in the law, scrap metal merchants are no longer permitted to pay cash for the cans you have collected.  Instead they will make payment via cheque or bank transfer, and you will need to take proof of ID with you when you complete the transaction.

You do not have to crush your empty cans. Some people crush their recycled cans to create more room in their recycling bin, but this is optional. Your can is endlessly recyclable either way!

We don’t collect and reprocess cans ourselves. Instead, Every Can Counts fits in around the recycling arrangements you already have in place. If you have a mixed dry recycling service with your waste contractor, just tie up the bag of cans and place it with your other recyclables.

If you don’t have an existing recycling service, our team may be able to advise on the options available in your local area.  Click here to get in touch.

We provide free recycling materials to businesses and organisations looking to set up or improve their drink can recycling facilities.  These materials include can collection boxes as well as promotional materials such as posters which communicate the benefits of recycling.

We do not award ISO certificates.  For more information on ISO visit their website.
