Guest Blogger, Ben Fry, comments on Stratford-upon-Avon College’s collaboration with Every Can Counts during its One World Celebration.

“As an overriding theme of Stratford-upon-Avon College’s One World Celebration, the Every Can Counts 10ft tall Icarus statue stood proud in the main reception area, to encourage staff and students to  think about what they can do to live more sustainably – and get them to recycle their empty drink cans.

Staff and students at the College were tasked to fill the statue with cans consumed both on campus and at home within the week, with an added incentive of winning one of four £25 Amazon vouchers. At the end of the week, Icarus was emptied and four cans were picked at random as winners.

The event proved a great success and we were delighted to have Icarus filled with crushed drink cans by Friday morning.

Working with Every Can Counts helped to make our annual celebration of equality and diversity across the globe even more successful than the last, and has helped to raise awareness of the importance and necessity of recycling. We’re now using Every Can Counts to promote recycling across the college and having this high profile launch activity will hopefully have got our can recycling off to a flying start.” (Ben Fry, Student Liaison Co-ordinator – Stratford-upon-Avon College).
