Isle of Wight Festival

Every Can Counts helped festival goers recycle over 250,000 drinks cans during the Isle of Wight Festival.

This year's Isle of Wight Festival marked the first outing for Every Can Counts at a major outdoor event.  We teamed up with waste management experts Biffa and local charity Haylands Farm to support on-site recycling activities and promote drinks can recycling to festival goers.  Revenue from the cans collected will benefit the charity, which works with adults with learning difficulties.

Isle of Wight StageVolunteers from Haylands Farm, supported by the Biffa team, worked tirelessly collecting cans used in the campsites.  In addition Every Can Counts set up our inflatable football goal next to the main arena entrance, encouraging people to recycle their cans and have a go at scoring four goals from four balls in our penalty shoot out competition.  Anyone hitting all four targets was entered into a competition to win tickets to next year's Festival.  Photos of the Festival can be found on our Facebook page.

The combined efforts of the charity, Biffa and Every Can Counts saw over 3.5 tonnes of empty drinks cans saved for recycling.  Each can recycled saves energy and raw materials, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.  For example recycling one tonne of aluminium cans saves 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

So it's fair to say that the can recycling activities over the 3 days of the Festival made a significant contribution to cutting the Festival's carbon footprint.

We hope this will be the first of many successful events for Every Can Counts this summer, and beyond. To find out what other events we have scheduled check our events page, or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
