Every Can Counts today announces that beverage can maker Can-Pack has become a partner of the drinks can recycling programme, initially committing funding for a three year period. Can-Pack will join representatives from the other beverage can makers and aluminium and steel packaging recyclers on the national steering committee.
Philip Fisher, Managing Director,Can-PackUK, comments: “Every Can Counts is an excellent initiative which is making a meaningful contribution to increasing ‘on the go’ recycling rates for drinks cans used outside the home. Can-Pack is committed to both recycling and sustainability, so we wanted to join theUK’s leading programme.”
“We welcome Can-Pack as a key supporter of our programme and look forward to our future work together,” said Rick Hindley of Every Can Counts. “Every Can Counts has made real progress in developing successful recycling programmes for beverage cans since its launch. We now have over 4000 Every Can Counts collection points around theUKwithin nearly 500 organisations and this number keeps on growing. It is a very exciting time for the programme.”
Around 30% of the 9 billion cans sold every year are consumed outside the home; mainly in workplaces and whilst ‘on the go’, so they do not get picked up for recycling through local authority collections for domestic waste. Every Can Counts addresses this gap, helping organisations to set up and promote recycling schemes to staff and customers.
Organisations embracing the programme include large businesses, major retailers, government departments and local authorities as well as universities, music festivals, shopping centres and tourist attractions. All of them are using the programme to help achieve Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability objectives.
Why is it important to recycle the beverage can?
