This was our second year at V festival, where we again worked in partnership with Ryan’s Event Cleaning, the cleaning contractor for the whole site. Following our success at V Festival in Telford last summer, this year we were invited to both V fest locations – Telford and Chelmsford – which were both a huge success!
In Telford we used the same football goal promotion as last year, as it went down so well, offering festival goers a chance of winning 2012 festival tickets by having a go at scoring four out of four balls, in exchange for recycling their drinks cans. In the end congratulations go to Thomas Warmer, aka Tommy2cans – thanks for continually bringing us more cans and having more goes on the goal Tommy, your persistence paid off in the end!
We also ran a wristband competition, where every camper who brought a whole bag of empty cans to the recycle point earned themselves another chance of winning 2012 festival tickets. Each recycler was given a wristband with a unique number code, which they were directed to enter on the Every Can Counts website after the event. Whoever entered the ‘lucky’ number won the tickets.
At Hylands Park in Chelmsford, we promoted drinks can recycling using our football speed cage challenge, a new activity for our 2011 events programme. We pitted the boys against the girls to see who could shoot the fastest goal and two participants (the fastest male and fastest female) went home with a pair of tickets for V 2012.
All prizes, which were offered as incentives and given out as rewards for recycling, were donated by the festival organisers, Metropolis Music, who for the second year running, demonstrated their commitment to sustainability.
