ACE Recycling has partnered with Every Can Counts and the Carers Trust to launch ‘Cans for Carers’, an aluminium drinks cans recycling initiative that aims to raise money for young adult carers aged under 25 in Scotland.
The campaign, which is supported by the free-to-use Every Can Counts recycling programme, aims to encourage businesses across central Scotland to recycle their cans and raise money for the Carers Trust. For every tonne of cans collected through the Cans for Carers initiative ACE will donate £250 to Carers Trust Scotland who in turn will use the funds to support young adult carers in Scotland.
The campaign launched on the 26th January at the Carers Trust office in Glasgow. Malcolm McArdle, Managing Director for ACE Recycling, said: “Our aim is to encourage businesses to recycle more drinks cans whilst supporting a good cause. Donating 25% of the value of the aluminium cans collected will raise valuable funds for the Carers Trust Scotland, who will then support young adult carers to improve their everyday lives. We wanted to draw attention to a charitable cause that is often overlooked and ACE is committed to developing projects like this to help the local community and those in need.”
Meg Wright, Director for Scotland and Ireland of the Carers Trust said: “This is a great campaign to raise awareness of the work of the Carers Trust and the challenges faced by young adult carers under the age of 25. They have to combine study and work alongside their caring role. They may not have the money or time to take part in social events or access simple things like sports, recreation or even meeting their friends. Our aim is to support them and help them have a life out-with their caring role. We are proud to be working with both ACE Recycling and Every Can Counts to help encourage more people to recycle aluminium cans and raise money to support these carers in our communities.”
Chris Latham-Warde, Programme Manager for Every Can Counts, said: “ACE recycling has worked closely with Every Can Counts to create a major new campaign to raise awareness for both recycling and young carers that need support in our local communities. The launch of Cans for Carers creates an exciting opportunity to deliver social as well as environmental value by recycling drinks cans, so we’re encouraging businesses across Scotland to take part in the scheme.”
All of the drinks cans collected will be processed and recycled by ACE Recycling. Alloa based ACE are no strangers to aluminium can recycling as they have been Novelis’ aluminium can aggregation centre in Scotland for over 20 years. Novelis operates Europe’s only dedicated used aluminium can recycling plant in Warrington, Cheshire. This means that almost every aluminium can collected in Scotland and sent for recycling in Warrington, comes to ACE first where the company check for quality and contamination. ACE handle over 200 tonnes of aluminium cans for Novelis every single month which is equal to 13.5 million cans every month.
