Staff at Nethybridge Hotel win national recycling award

Recycling-savvy staff at the Inverness-based Nethybridge Hotel have been hailed recycling champions following their work with drinks can recycling programme Every Can Counts.

The team of 40 staff, who have been on board with the recycling scheme since 2015, have been awarded a national Green Can Award for successfully introducing drinks can recycling at the hotel.

As part of the hotel’s award-winning recycling initiative, communication materials and highly visible recycling points were installed in the hotel lounge bar and corridors. As a result, the hotel has significantly increased its responsible waste disposal and raised awareness of the importance of recycling.

Eva Secker, general manager of Nethybridge Hotel, said: “We are delighted to have had our recycling efforts recognised and now want to build on our success to encourage our staff and customers to continue doing as much as possible for the environment.”

Jamie Cameron, Programme Manager for Every Can Counts Scotland, said: “The Nethybridge Hotel team’s recycling efforts have been a huge success and we are pleased to acknowledge them with this Green Can Award. We hope that more Inverness businesses will become inspired to take part in the free to use Every Can Counts programme, reducing their waste disposal costs and improving their environmental credentials.”

Every Can Counts is funded by the UK’s drinks can manufacturers, recyclers and fillers.  In Scotland, the programme receives additional funding from Zero Waste Scotland and soft drinks manufacturer A.G. Barr plc.

Iain Gulland, Chief Executive of Zero Waste Scotland said: “We’d like to congratulate the Nethybridge Hotel on the Green Can Award and for their continued commitment to recycling.

“The Scottish Government has set ambitious recycling targets of 70% by 2025 and with this in mind, it’s encouraging to see community level action which will help towards achieving this goal.

“The Every Can Counts initiative will make it quick and easy for customers to recycle more. It’s also great for visitors to know that they’ll be helping to protect the environment, reduce landfill waste and save energy whilst enjoying the hospitality.”
